Abigail Edge is an award-winning journalist who has worked for some of the world’s largest media and technology companies. Her experience spans breaking news, features, social media storytelling and digital strategy in both large and small newsrooms.
A recipient of the Guardian’s Scott Trust Bursary, Abigail spent a few years freelancing in Denver, Colorado, reporting on human rights and social justice stories. She returned to the UK to lead social media strategy for BBC Politics, where she played a pivotal role in creating a multidisciplinary team to cover Brexit’s most critical moments.
Abigail then joined Google News Initiative as a Teaching Fellow, delivering workshops on digital newsgathering, fact-checking and innovation to newsrooms across the UK and Europe.
In 2020 Abigail co-founded The Society of Freelance Journalists – now a global community, providing support, advice and opportunities to almost 3,000 members. She is a Visiting Lecturer at City University’s Journalism School, where she teaches social and digital journalism. Her areas of expertise include longform journalism, social media storytelling, climate reporting, digital strategy and innovation.
