Case Study:
The Trust Index

With Graham Media Group

Building trust and fighting misinformation ahead of the 2020 US election

We are established leaders in combating misinformation and optimising organisations for trust. Our work in these areas includes misinformation monitoring, fact-checking and digital content production.

Ahead of the 2020 presidential election, Graham Media Group in the US approached us to build a fact-checking operation for its local news stations. Our shared goal was to provide audiences with trusted news and give them reassurance to choose their local GMG station as their election news provider.

The result was Trust Index: designed to identify manipulated or misleading user-generated content and detect politically-motivated misinformation targeting local media. To support transparency in the newsroom, viewers were encouraged to share questionable content for review by station journalists.

To embed Trust Index across the GMG group, we created custom workflows and provided comprehensive training. Trust Index has since become a recognisable brand across all six GMG news stations.
