Laurens works as an independent researcher, journalist and trainer with newsrooms, broadcasters and universities, and is a Fathm Expert Network Associate. His latest book, Niet onze AI (Not our AI), focuses mainly on non-dominant perspectives on AI. Together with his co-author Gabriella Obispa (from The Antilles), he advocates for a more diverse and inclusive debate on AI. His first book The Art of AI, a practical book about AI and machine learning, was published in 2022. He has been a member of the Council of Europe's Expert committee on Increasing Media Resilience (MSI-RES) in 2022-2023. Previously, he worked at Google as a News Lab Teaching Fellow.
