Case Study:
Infodemic Response

With the Africa Infodemic Response Alliance

Debunking health misinformation with shareable social content across Africa.

To counter false claims and fight information gaps in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, Fathm established a new social content initiative to create engaging fact-based health information such as fact checks, viral debunks and explainers.

Viral Facts Africa is a collaborative project coordinated by Fathm in partnership with the Africa Infodemic Response Alliance (AIRA), a network of trusted public health institutions and fact checkers.

Fathm produces highly engaging visual content to address viral misinformation and information gaps identified by AIRA stakeholders. Our work on the project also involves setting weekly content plans, drafting and clearing scripts, and developing visual formats.

We also manage the distribution of VFA content via verified social media channels, host and maintain the VFA website, and maintain the VFA Content Hub that is accessed by AIRA partners for republishing content.

Between March and September 2021, Viral Facts Africa videos were viewed over 170 million times. Research also showed that audiences who viewed Viral Facts Africa content were better informed on vaccine importance, safety, efficacy and side effects.
